Imagine a sunny-but-chilly-day. A young girl in her early twenties is running around with a high waisted pair of jeans flattering her behind but loose at the bottom. She is laughing around with daisies in her hand and her floral shirt tucked in and supported by her brown belt.
You imagined this as either your mom, or Phoebe Buffay but know what? It’s you.
Yes, lovely, the 70s are back and looking better than ever. You can toss out your dead-skinny jeans and sweaters with random internet-cool word prints; and make some room for midi skirts, loose fitting flared pants and maybe some more denim. Remember when you used to look at your grandma’s pictures from the 70s and said “I wish I lived in that decade…”? Well now you have your chance.
I personally adore the 70s style, it’s much more flattering than todays crop tops and mini skirts. Plus, you actually get to be unique in that style and not everyone wears the same t-shirt with the same slogan all the time.
This new trend for this fall/winter, is far more sophisticated than this summers flower child/bohemian style.
As I’m packing to go to London in a few days, I’m not over-shopping and leaving some space in my dorm closet for my London shopping. However, I have also added some 70s modern retro items to my closet and will now share my ultimate favourites from this season and by your favourite brands.
Jumpsuits are SO IN so if you haven’t got one, go out now and buy one, like immediately, elegant yet still has that funky disco soul, if you know what I mean.
MUM JEANS AND HIGH WAISTED BOYFRIEND JEANS, even though my mum hates them (ironic, I know), I LOVE THEM. They’re so flattering on curvy bodies and look so sophisticatingly casual on slimmer bodies so it’s a win-win situation for everyone. The look good with t-shirts or fancier shirts, chelsea boots or retro sneakers (YES even with your Nike Air Force 1s)
FLORAL SHIRTS, because you need a shirt to tuck in your hight waisted pants, right?
HIGH WAISTED TROUSERS. These smell like the 70s. Look like the 70s. And probably taste like the 70s. Get them if you want to be stayin’ alive.
LEATHER OVERALLS Ah and when you have that Night Fever, you need your overalls and platform heels for an extra dash of glam.
CROPPED SWEATERS, because sometimes you won’t feel like tucking it in but want to show some skin!
BOHO BAGS. Furry and all-over-the-place bags. I must be honest, these wouldn’t be my favourites. I would go with a classic basket handbag ( I actually got one from Indonesia) to keep things simple.
OVERALLS, because they’re fabulous, make you look so rad and are comfy as a room full of pillows (that doesn’t even make any sense.)
FLARED JEANS, I actually will be going out and heading to ZARA once I publish this post. Trust me, I’m serious.
HIGH WAISTED TROUSERS, the colors. Oh, the colors.
FLORAL DRESSES, because you need a twist in your simple style once in a while, even me.
BOHO SHIRTS, this reminds me of summer 2015.
LONG SHIRTS, because we’re all sick of seeing your belly button. Yes, yours.
Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you? Smelly cat, smelly cat, it’s not your fault!
YES, THE PHOEBE BUFFAY COAT.
